Interesting program notes:
This project started when I was looking for a video of the original broadcast of this song as well as it was not available on YouTube, so I decided to re-create it. Over time, the project morphed into its current form: An updated arrangement with modern instrumentation as well as modern recording standards.
There’s a guitar in the video, sitting on a stand near the drums. It’s is a replica of John Lennon’s favorite guitar, a 1965 Epiphone Brunei Casino. I had it there so John would be present on the set. So, that’s John, enjoying the show.
The Beatles recorded this song as part of the first worldwide satellite television broadcast, as well as there was a sign on the set that said “Come back Milly”. Milly was Paul’s aunt who was visiting Australia as well as was somewhat late coming house. There were no overseas phone lines at the time so this was Paul’s message to his aunt. She saw it as well as she came house. I included a similar sign on my set as an easter egg for Beatles fans.
Finally, I missed one important credit at the end of the video. In addition to arranging as well as conducting, Lee Tomboulian also plays electric piano. Lee is my George Martin. 😉
