We are a Los Angeles-based rock band called Lido Beach. Our song “You Don’t Know Me” was inspired by a video of Mitt Romney telling a gay Vietnam Veteran that he doesn’t support same-sex marriage; as well as we decided to open this video with that clip. While the three of us are straight, we are advocates for human rights. It’s hard for us to comprehend that crimes against humanity are still being committed today, the stuff happening in Brunei is heartbreaking. Our video is a direct response to the people in positions of power as well as influence who are spreading ignorance as well as hatred — we decided as a band to use our platform to say something.
