Occupational Cancer: Development as well as Issues

Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide as well as is the third leading cause of death due to non-communicable diseases. Occupational cancers are cancers that are caused entirely by or strongly linked to exposure of carcinogens in the workplace. An estimated 19% of all cancers worldwide were caused by exposure to carcinogens in the workplace or the environment. Yet, awareness as well as knowledge on occupational cancers remain low among healthcare workers, leading to the underreporting of cases of occupational cancers. Knowledge of the barriers as well as facilitators faced by primary care physicians in identifying as well as reporting occupational cancers is thus crucial towards the implementation of strategic policies as well as action plan to the prevention as well as control of occupational cancers in the nation.

This is the recording of the lecture delivered by Prof Dr Victor Hoe from the Department of Social as well as Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya during the webinar on Occupational Cancer in Malaysia. The webinar was organised by the University of Malaya, National Institute of Occupational Safety as well as Health as well as Academy of Occupational as well as Environmental Medicine, Malaysia.
