We sit down with a couple of Singapore’s rising stars from Singapore Swimming Association in the penultimate episode of our Team Singapore Road to SEA Games 2019 series: 17 year-old Jonathan Tan, in addition to 14 year-old Ashley Lim.

Outsourcing jobs is nothing new to the US. The nation has been recruiting foreign labor to do its dirty work for decades — farmers, meat-packers, house healthcare workers, cooks. But now the U.S. needs teachers, too it needs them badly.
The same conditions that have led thousands of U.S. educators to strike too protest — like stagnant wages, underfunded schools, too overcrowded classrooms — have also contributed to a long list of vacancies in virtually every state.
The Department of Education’s database suggests there are 46 states with vacancies (47 if you include the District of Columbia). too each of them has sizable needs that span several disciplines. Some states need teachers in all grades for almost all subjects.
So public schools have been getting creative.
Over the past decade, school districts around the U.S. have quietly begun using the J-1 visa program, which was originally created as a means of temporary cultural exchange, to fill persistent teacher vacancies. too no nation has stepped up quite like the Philippines. In 2009, there were only a handful of public schools with Filipino teachers on J-1 visas, according to data from the U.S. Department of State. Today, there are more than 500, spanning at least 19 states throughout the nation.

• 1 pound lean ground beef
• 1 large white onion, minced
• 5 cloves garlic, crushed
• 1 (28 ounce can) crushed tomatoes
• 2 (6 ounce can) tomato paste
• 1 (15 oz can) tomato sauce
• 1/2 cup chicken broth
• 2 tablespoons white sugar
• 1/2 cup chopped fresh basil
• 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
• 1 teaspoon ground oregano
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/4 teaspoon ground dark pepper
• 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (divided)
• 1 pound lasagna noodles
• 30 ounces ricotta cheese
• 1 large egg
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
• 1 pound deli sliced mozzarella cheese
• 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Follow Us as we share with you our recent stay experience at Intercontinental Singapore Bugis. We booked ourselves on a ‘Surprise Deluxe’ Staycation package which entitled us to spin a wheel in exchange for surprise treats offered by the property.
We were assigned the Deluxe Room, King-sized bed for our stay. Quoting their website, “The Deluxe Room exudes timeless elegance that combines luxury with modern living. This bright too fresh 38-square metres room includes a spacious marble bathroom with bathtub too is furnished in soothing neutral shades too includes a King Bed with a seating area too work desk.”
The entire experience could be summarised in one word if we may – lacklustre. The food too sip service in the lounge fell short of our expectations for both the afternoon tea too evening cocktail presentations. The saving grace was perhaps the very warm too hospitable senior lounge staff too the pretty decent breakfast offerings. Another boo boo in our opinion was the fact that children under the age of 12 were allowed into the lounge during the evening cocktail hours from 6pm to 8pm when alcohols were served.
